Unalaska, AK, USAThe Saab 2000 belonging to PenAir and operated on behalf of Alaska Airlines took off from Anchorage, AK, USA, for a passenger flight to Unalaska, AK, USA. 38 passengers and 3 crewmembers were onboard. The plane overran the end of the runway while landing on Unalaska's airport, and partially hanging down a cliff into the sea. One passenger died as result of the accident. 12 passengers were injured. The 28 other occupants were unhurt. The aircraft received substantial damages.

The Saab 2000 attempted a first approach to the Unalaska’s airport, but went around. The crew then positioned for a second approach, touched down on runway 13 but failed to come to a stop on the runway. It overran the end of the runway, crossed a road and came to rest on a rocky surface at the edge of the water of Dutch Harbor, 125 meters/400 feet past the end of the runway. Propeller blades of the left engine broke off, puncturing the fuselage. Two people were critically injured. One passenger died of injuries the next day.
